Premier Li meets with Micronesian president

Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting President of the Federated States of Micronesia David W. Panuelo in Beijing on Dec 13.

Premier Li said this year is the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Micronesia, and the two countries have maintained healthy and stable development in their relations.

He said President Xi Jinping would have a meeting with Panuelo to push for new development of the bilateral ties.

China believes in equality for all countries, large and small, in international communities, and firmly supports Micronesia to choose the development road suitable for their own conditions, the Premier said.

He added that China is willing to promote sustainable development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Premier Li said he hopes the two sides, both as developing countries, will strengthen the docking of their strategies, and enhance cooperation in all fields, especially in exploitation and processing in marine fishery, to achieve win-win results.

China pays attention to the special concerns of Micronesia and other Pacific island nations on climate change, always upholds implementation of the Paris Agreement, and is willing to strengthen South-South cooperation and experience-sharing to tackle global climate change with Micronesia.

Panuelo said the relations between Micronesia and China is strong and has achieved great progress. And Micronesia highly values the relationship with China and adheres to the one-China policy.

Micronesia will use the 30th anniversary of its diplomatic relations with China as an opportunity to increase high-level exchanges, promote cooperation in various fields, deepen friendship between the two peoples, and elevate bilateral relations to a new stage, he said.

Micronesia appreciates contributions from China in coping with climate change and will strengthen cooperation with China under the framework of the United Nations, according to Panuelo.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and He Lifeng, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, also attended the meeting.
