Premier Li Keqiang visited a construction site on Dec 23 in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province, where he climbed on a scaffold and talked with migrant workers there. He asked them how much they could earn for one month and how long they work per day. Also, the Premier asked whether their wages are paid on time and in full.
Premier Li then came to the migrant worker’s dormitory area and inspected their meals and accommodation.
The Premier said that migrant workers are the backbone of urban construction, and they are the pillars of their families. Migrant workers’ hard work and sweat is behind every building and every corner in the city. They work day and night with extra shifts and hours to get their hard-earned money.
Premier Li stressed that it goes against one’s conscience to withhold their wages, and it is even worse to do it on purpose, a practice which must be eradicated.
