Istanbul Ministerial Process on Afghanistan in Beijing is the first such meeting since the new Afghan government took office in late September.

According to the Foreign Ministry, China and Afghanistan have reached a consensus on numerous issues. Foreign Minister Wang Yi, together with his Afghan counterpart, Zarar Ahmad Osmani, co-chaired the meeting on Oct 31.

Wang said China hopes to show the world its support for the smooth transition in Afghanistan, and develop a consensus in the region for safeguarding security and stability in Afghanistan. Osmani thanked China for hosting the meeting, adding that Afghanistan is willing to develop a close cooperation with China. This conference comes as UK and US troops continue to withdraw from Afghanistan.
