On the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Myanmar, Premier Li Keqiang attended the 9th East Asia Summit on Nov 13. He called for pushing forward regional economic integration and common development.

To achieve regional economic integration, he urged cooperation in six key areas, including trade and investment, maritime as well as people-to-people exchanges. Meanwhile, Li said China and the ASEAN members are discussing a treaty on good-neighbourliness, friendship and cooperation, which is aimed at providing an institutional framework and legal guarantee for peaceful coexistence between the two sides.

Regarding the maritime issues, the Premier said both sides have identified the dual-track approach for dealing with the South China Sea issue. The East Asia Summit drew leaders from 18 countries, including ten ASEAN member states and six dialogue partners — China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand as well as the United States and Russia as new comers.
