Premier Li Keqiang meets Irish president Higgins

Premier Li Keqiang has met with visiting Irish President Michael D. Higgins at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Dec 10. Higgins is on his first state visit to China, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

Li said the bilateral relationship has been progressing steadily in a healthy manner. This year marks the 35th year anniversary of the official diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Li pledged to deepen cooperation in all areas and expand cultural communication, and add new dimensions to the bilateral ties. He said he hoped Ireland would play an active role in developing China-EU relations.

President Higgins said cooperation in areas such as education, science and technology has increased in recent years. He added that Ireland is willing to enhance bilateral and multilateral relations with China and cope with global challenges together.
