Premier Li meets with counterparts ahead of summit

Ahead of the start of the China-Central and Eastern European summit in Belgrade, Premier Li Keqiang met with his counterparts from Slovenia, Latvia, Montenegro and the Czech Republic.

When meeting with Slovenian prime minister Miro Cerar, Premier Li said Beijing will encourage Chinese companies to participate in projects in the Slovenian port city of Koper. Cerar said Slovenia wants Koper to be a gateway for Chinese products entering Europe. Later, in his meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma, Li said China wants to boost investment and enhance cooperation in the Baltic country to facilitate negotiations on the China-Europe Investment treaty.

The Latvian prime minister said his country is also ready to promote the Silk Road Initiative with China. Li Keqiang then discussed cooperation with Montengro Prime Minister Milo Dukanovic, in areas including trade, shipbuilding, highway construction, energy and education. Li said he hopes construction on the Montengro highway financed by China will start soon. Finally, in a meeting with Czech Prime Minister Hohuslav Sobotka, both leaders said they wanted to boost bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy, finance and aviation.
