Premier Li Keqiang, during a visit to the eastern province of Zhejiang on May 24, said China should bring social security benefits to as many flexible employment workers as possible.
Such a move would help extend the potential of the job market, make cities more competitive and the society more vigorous, he said.
Premier Li said flexible employment could help many people increase their income, adding that more than 200 million people are currently working in such a category in China.
Earlier in the day, Premier Li visited the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the world's busiest cargo handling port.
