Vice-Premier Ma Kai inspected passenger transportation for the travel rush period, in Wuhan from Jan 31 to Feb 1.

The 2018 Spring Festival travel rush, known as chunyun, will run for 40 days, from Feb 1 to March 12.

On Jan 31, Ma visited travelers on the train heading from Beijing to Wuhan. At places such as Wuhan Railway Station and Fujiapo Coach Station, he inspected their scheduling, safety controls, transport connections and services, and greeted passengers, police and staff on Feb 1.

Ma said the large number of passengers expected during this year’s travel rush, as well as the severe weather conditions nationwide, such as low temperatures, snow, frost, and heavy fog, will add to the difficulty of passenger transportation.

Local governments should strengthen supervision and develop rational plans, he said, adding that coordination between different transportation modes should be enhanced to boost efficiency.

Efforts also should be made to further improve transportation services and develop emergency response plans to ensure a smooth, safe journey for passengers, Ma said.
