MUNICH — State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Feb 15 met in Munich with Manfred Weber, chair of Group of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
Wang called on EPP to support Sino-EU cooperation and play a constructive role in this regard.
As comprehensive strategic partners, China and Europe share important consensus on issues such as upholding multilateralism and free trade, Wang noted, reminding the world is facing the challenges of unilateralism, the rise of power politics, and the resurgence of cold war mentality.
Wang said China and the EU should strengthen solidarity and cooperation to jointly safeguard world peace and stability, adding that China is deepening reforms and opening-up, which will create more opportunities for European enterprises.
Echoing the top Chinese diplomat, Weber said EPP will support the EU to strengthen ties with China, expecting more bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and other areas.
Besides, he noted that EPP is willing to strengthen exchanges with China, enhance understanding and play a positive role in promoting the development of EU-China relations.
