TAIYUAN — China will continue to push forward the revolution of the energy sector and jointly promote global energy sustainable development with other countries, Vice-Premier Han Zheng said on Oct 22.
Han made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum 2019 in the capital city of North China's Shanxi province.
Before delivering his keynote speech, Han read President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to the forum, saying the letter demonstrates the great importance China attaches to the energy low-carbon development.
Themed "Energy Revolution, International Cooperation," the forum attracts more than 800 participants from over 20 countries and a number of international organizations.
China has advanced the revolution in energy production and consumption and quickened the clean and low-carbon energy transition, Han said, adding remarkable achievements had been made in the country's energy sector guided by Xi's new energy security strategy.
As the world's largest energy producer and consumer, China will continue to push forward energy revolution in such areas as energy consumption, energy supply, energy technology innovation and pricing mechanisms, said Han.
Regarding international energy cooperation, Han said China is willing to work with other countries to jointly improve energy policy systems, and strengthen cooperation in energy areas under the Belt and Road Initiative, to jointly promote global energy sustainable development and safeguard energy security and build a clean and beautiful world.
Former Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, and Liu Zhenmin, UN under-secretary-general for economic and social affairs, also spoke at the opening ceremony, praising China's leading role in reducing emissions, coping with global climate change and promoting renewable energy development.
