Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended and addressed a meeting honoring leading labor relations organizations in Beijing on July 11.

He stressed the need to fully implement the thoughts and directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping, follow the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, so as to strive to build harmonious labor relations with Chinese characteristics.

This will help promote economic growth, stabilize employment and labor relations, therefore enhance social harmony, and better serve the overall interests of economic and social development, added Hu.

Hu pointed out that workers are builders of the society and the economy, and also sharers of the development fruits.

To promote workers’ most practical and essential interests, their fundamental rights should be guaranteed in various aspects, such as acquiring labor remuneration, vocational training, safety and health protection, as well as rest and vacation, Hu said, noting that some particular issues, as delaying migrant workers’ salary payments, should be completely stopped.

He urged that the consulting and coordinating mechanism for labor relations should be at full play and the use of collective consultation and the collective contract system should be expanded.

Efforts are also needed to popularize practices such as worker representative congress and publicity of factory affairs, and to innovate on coordinating mechanism for trilateral labor relations, so as to achieve results in a way of higher effectiveness and authoritativeness.

Hu said measures should be taken to effectively strengthen the prevention and resolution of conflicts and risks and to enhance the dealing of emergencies in labor relations.

He called joint efforts from government, groups, organizations, enterprises and workers to follow the examples of the honored organizations and build harmonious labor relations.

Vice-Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee Wang Dongming, who’s also chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Union, hosted the meeting. Gao Yunlong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, also attended the meeting.
