Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua, who is also head of the State Council Leading Group on Poverty Alleviation and Development, inspected a campaign, “staying true to our founding mission”, on July 25.

Hu stressed the importance of learning Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and deepened understanding and implementation of Xi’s important statements on poverty-alleviation. He urged the government to put the campaign results into action to win the fight against poverty as scheduled.

He also heard a report by the State Council Leading Group on Poverty Alleviation and Development on their study and promotion of Xi’s important statements as well as follow-up inspections.

Winning the fight against poverty will embody the Party’s fulfilling of its original aspiration and mission, Hu said. General Secretary Xi took the command of the battle against poverty to the forefront and set an example for the whole Party in working tirelessly with perseverance on poverty alleviation, he added.

He also urged further efforts in carrying out the campaign with high standards and quality by enhancing theory studies, deepening practical research, facing problems directly and strict supervision.

Hu said in the current crucial phase of the battle, government should grasp the main goal and implement measures to deal with each particular problem.

Poverty-stricken areas in western China, especially parts in deep poverty, are the key battle grounds, Hu said, and the major task is to ensure compulsory education, basic medical care, housing security and potable water.
