BEIJING — Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has called for greater resolution and efforts to press on with the fight against poverty while containing the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Hu, also chief of the State Council leading group of poverty alleviation and development, made the remarks on March 10 at a meeting of the leading group.
Efforts are required to ensure that poverty alleviation goals are met on time and a moderately prosperous society is built, Hu said.
Measures will be taken to complete poverty relief tasks in an all-around way, and to ensure that all the remaining poverty-stricken counties and population are lifted out of poverty, according to Hu.
Hu also urged efforts to build a monitoring and assisting mechanism, with preemptive measures taken to prevent people from falling into or back into poverty.
Solid work is required to provide follow-up support for poverty alleviation efforts through industries, employment and the planned relocation of poor individuals, while ensuring drinking water safety and quality, Hu noted.
Amid efforts to minimize the impact of the epidemic, rural revitalization and poverty reduction should be promoted, Hu added.
