Vice-premier Hu Chunhua recently inspected poverty-relief work in regions inhabited by ethnic minorities of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

He paid a visit to industries with local features, and learned about the relocation of impoverished residents and their working and living conditions.

Hu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, also is chief of the State Council leading group on poverty alleviation and development.

He said targeted measures should be adopted to lift ethnic groups out of poverty as scheduled, which is vital for the country to win the battle against poverty.

And, related departments should support those who have fallen back into poverty or are encountering difficulties, strengthen follow-up assistance for relocated people and help foster competitive industries.

Poverty alleviation should be linked to rural rejuvenation to obtain sustainable development in regions inhabited by ethnic groups, he added.

Hu also inspected agricultural production in Guizhou, urging efforts to ensure an orderly grain harvest and government purchase, and properly arrange grain planting in autumn and winter.
