WUHAN — Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua on Dec 31 underscored achieving solid results in the full implementation of the 10-year Yangtze River fishing ban.
With the previous efforts of the provinces and municipalities along the Yangtze River and relevant departments, it is mature to initiate a full-scale implementation of the fishing ban, said Hu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at a launch ceremony in central Chinese city of Wuhan.
He stressed consolidating the achievements in resettling the retired fishermen, cracking down on illegal fishing in an all-around way, and pushing for a total ban on the selling and consuming of wildlife in the Yangtze, China's longest river.
According to the central government's plan, a complete 10-year fishing ban will be imposed in key waters of the Yangtze starting Jan 1, 2021.
