Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua urged accelerating the development of rural industries in line with local conditions to consolidate the material base of promoting rural revitalization comprehensively.
Hu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while inspecting the development of rural industries in Central China’s Henan province on March 24-26.
The vice-premier visited planting and breeding bases, farmers’ cooperatives, enterprise workshops and industrial parks in Changyuan, a county-level city under Xinxiang city, and Junxian county and Qibin district of Hebi city.
He learned about farmland management of summer grains, resumption of hog production, processing and distribution of agricultural products and the integrated development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries in rural areas.
Industrial prosperity is the precondition to solve all problems in rural areas, Hu said.
Efforts should be made to fully take advantages of characteristic resources in agriculture and rural areas, strive to build high-quality and diversified modern rural industrial system, improve efficiency in agriculture, increase farmers’ incomes and promote rural prosperity, said the vice-premier.
Hu also urged vigorously developing modern planting and breeding industry, speeding up the upgrading of agricultural facilities and equipment and sci-tech support levels, promote diversified operations in an appropriate scale, and improve the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the supply of grains and major agricultural products.
The expansion of the processing and distribution of agricultural products should be accelerated, and new businesses, such as rural tourism and leisure agriculture, should be actively developed, he said.
He called for an optimized rural industrial layout based on the whole county region and an improved linkage mechanism for benefits to allow farmers to further participate in industrial development and share valued-added benefits.
Bottleneck problems regarding the development of rural industries and major problems, such as land use, financing and insurance, should also be addressed quickly, said Hu.
