Vice-Premier Liu He urged publicizing academician Zhu Youyong's poverty-alleviation works, and his status as a role model.

Liu He, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with a team at the Great Hall of the People to report on the exemplary deeds of Zhu Youyong, a well-known plant pathologist, on Dec 30.

Liu said that academician Zhu Youyong has been on the front lines of poverty-alleviation efforts in Lancang county, Yunnan province, applying scientific research results to his work. Zhu forged a new path of poverty alleviation using science, technology and industry.

The vice-premier stressed that it is worth remembering Zhu's determination to remain true to his original mission; his exploring spirit as a scientist; his concern for the people; and his hard work and dedication. Science and technology innovation should be closely linked with people's fortunes, Liu said.

Zhu delivered a speech at the meeting; related departments and local governments gave a briefing.
