BEIJING — Chinese police have ordered the removal of more than 190,000 illegal online items featuring violence, obscenity or gambling, the Ministry of Public Security announced on Aug 18.

The removal is part of a six-month campaign which began in July to combat “online criminal activities,” the ministry said in a statement.

The action also targets online sabotage attacks, website hacking, fraud and financial crime.

Police have apprehended more than 15,000 suspects of online crime and suspended a number of network service providers, advertising agencies and hackers.
