China urges online educational institutions to recruit qualified teachers
Updated: July 15, 2019 21:08 Xinhua

BEIJING — The employment of teachers for online after-school training institutions should be supervised and regulated, according to a guideline issued on July 15.

Teachers employed by online educational institutions should not be in-service teachers from primary and secondary schools but must hold corresponding teachers’ qualifications, said the guideline jointly released by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and other five agencies.

Foreign teachers recruited by the after-school training institutions should comply with relevant national regulations, it said, adding that institutions must publicize information of their foreign teachers, including learning, work and teaching experiences as well as teachers’ qualifications.

The institutions should make information about both Chinese and foreign teachers public on their online platforms and open to public supervision, said Lyu Yugang, a senior official with the MOE.
