Road toll reform means quick, easy travel for motorists
Updated: August 7, 2019 10:58 Economic Daily/english.www.gov.cn

Electronic toll collection (ETC) users topped 100 million in China as of Aug 2, as the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and provincial governments have been jointly working to further reform the road toll system and accelerate cancellation of highway toll stations at province borders, according to the ministry.

The reform plan was issued in May for more efficient road traveling. It required careful and sound planning, calling for steady and safe implementation. Using clear technological methods, it’s expected that by the end of 2019, all highway toll stations at province borders in the country will be canceled.

ETC issuing parties in the transportation industry are asked to provide more access to the system and quick installation without charges. Highways with over 5 percent of passing vehicles on ETC will get reduced tolls. Overall, service quality should be improved for an easy and quick road experience for motorists. Currently, ETC’s daily issue volume exceeds 580,000.
