Industrial development drives China's poverty reduction
Updated: September 3, 2019 14:38 Xinhua

BEIJING — Developing industries based on local conditions has become a key driver for China's anti-poverty campaign, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

About 67 percent of the population lifted out of poverty has achieved the transition thanks to local agricultural, industrial and services development, said Yu Xinrong, deputy head of the ministry.

Over two-thirds of the poor households now work with new types of business entities like farmer cooperatives, which offer them technical and management training and assistance.

Efforts will be made to improve the produce processing sector in poor regions, while industrial parks will be opened to promote the integrated development of agriculture, industry and services, according to the ministry.
