Chinese mainland reports 49 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases

BEIJING — Chinese health authority said on Aug 2 that it received reports of 49 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland on Aug 1, of whom, 33 were domestically transmitted.

Of the domestically transmitted cases, 30 were reported in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and three others were in Liaoning province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

No deaths related to the disease or newly suspected COVID-19 cases were reported on Aug 1, the commission said.

on Aug 2, 14 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

As of Aug 2, the overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 84,385, including 748 patients who were still being treated, with 36 in severe condition, said the commission, adding that one confirmed case was deducted from Xinjiang's tally of confirmed cases after examination.

Altogether 79,003 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease, the commission said.

A total of 16 newly imported cases were reported Saturday, according to the commission.

In breakdown, Sichuan province reported four imported cases, provinces of Shandong and Hubei each reported three, Guangdong and Shaanxi two, respectively, and Shanghai Municipality and Fujian province each reported one.

By the end of Aug 1, a total of 2,085 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of the cases, 1,994 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 91 remained hospitalized with three in severe condition. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

There were still two suspected COVID-19 cases, the commission said.

According to the commission, 21,445 close contacts were still under medical observation after 145 people were discharged from medical observation Saturday.

Also on Aug 1, 20 new asymptomatic cases, including nine imported ones, were reported and four asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases.

The commission said 257 asymptomatic cases, including 101 imported ones, were still under medical observation.
