BEIJING — The National Health Commission said on Sept 1 that 31 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland on Aug 31.

There were 216 patients still being treated, including three in severe conditions, the commission said in its daily report.

Altogether 80,208 patients had been cured and discharged from hospitals by Aug 31, the report said.

As of Aug 31, a total of 85,058 confirmed COVID-19 cases had been reported on the mainland, among whom 4,634 died of the disease.
