Updated: October 16, 2020 20:25 Xinhua

BEIJING — China will promote the inclusion of aesthetic assessment into high school admission standards on a pilot basis before expanding the scheme to cover the whole nation by 2022, said Wang Dengfeng, a senior official with the Ministry of Education.

Students' performance in physical and aesthetic education will be given more weight in the assessment, Wang said at a press conference on Oct 16, when elaborating on a set of guidelines on improving physical and aesthetic education in schools recently issued by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council.

The content and scoring method of physical education should be improved, and art subjects should be brought into the pilot reform of senior high school enrollment, according to Wang.
