BEIJING — No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on Oct 16 across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said on Oct 17.
A total of 13 confirmed cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report.
One new suspected COVID-19 case from outside the mainland was reported in Shanghai, but no new deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said.
Of the new imported cases, five were reported in Shanghai, four in Tianjin, two in Guangdong, and one in Sichuan and Shaanxi each, according to the commission.
On Oct 16, seven COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland.
By the end of Oct 16, a total of 3,097 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 2,851 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 246 remained hospitalized, with one in severe condition. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.
As of Oct 16, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 85,659, of whom 259 patients are still being treated, with five in severe condition.
Altogether 80,766 patients had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.
There were five suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland, while 8,040 close contacts were still under medical observation after 980 were discharged on Oct 16, according to the commission.
Also on Oct 16, 11 new asymptomatic cases, including 10 from outside the mainland, were reported, and one asymptomatic case was re-categorized as a confirmed case.
The commission said 374 asymptomatic cases, including 372 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation.
By Oct 16, 5,220 confirmed cases, including 105 deaths, had been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 cases reported in Macao SAR, and 535 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.
A total of 4,951 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong SAR, 46 in Macao SAR and 491 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
