BEIJING — China's energy supply and demand are generally balanced and can meet the needs of the people, the National Energy Administration said on Jan 8.
Influenced by the freezing weather, gas consumption and electricity generation have reached record highs, said Tong Guangyi, an official with the administration.
The demand for energy, especially electricity, has grown faster than expected due to recent cold waves and the country's sustainable and stable economic recovery, said Tong.
The electricity supply is able to basically meet the needs of the people, he said, though some regions continue to face energy supply pressure during peak hours.
