BEIJING — The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) on Jan 18 said that departments for handling reports of online illegal and harmful information across the country dealt with around 163 million tip-offs in 2020. It was up 17.4 percent from the previous year.
The relevant government departments and major domestic websites handled the tip-offs, the center said, adding that several commercial websites, including Sina Weibo and Baidu, had dealt with around 115 million tip-offs. They accounted for 79.6 percent of those handled by websites.
The public is encouraged to report illegal and harmful online activities via the CAC's tip-off center hotline and mobile app.
