Updated: January 22, 2021 20:12 Xinhua

BEIJING — The China Meteorological Administration has launched a monitoring and assessment center of greenhouse gases and carbon neutrality on Jan 22.

Focusing on the need for green and low-carbon development and coping with climate change, the center will do related studies on carbon neutrality, said Zhang Xiaoye. He is an academic with the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researcher with the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Science.

The center will also guide the country's decision-making concerning carbon neutrality and response to climate change.

China has announced that it would strive to bring carbon dioxide emissions to a peak before 2030 and become carbon neutral before 2060.

The promises showed China's firm commitment to green, low-carbon, and high-quality development, experts said.
