BEIJING — China reported eight accidents related to the production of fireworks in 2020, down 38.5 percent from the previous year, authorities said on Jan 22.
The accidents resulted in nine deaths, down 70 percent from the previous year, said the Ministry of Emergency Management.
Fireworks are widely used to celebrate festivals in China, particularly the Spring Festival, which will fall on Feb 12 this year.
Despite fewer accidents last year, loopholes remain in the management of firework production, the ministry warned.
Risks may increase as we are in the peak season for firework production and sales, and more should be done to eradicate hidden dangers and prevent major accidents, the ministry said.
