Service capacity in the area also increased during the same period, Song said, noting that the number of obstetricians and gynecologists has risen by 18.2 percent to 325,000 and that of pediatricians by 34.1 percent to 159,000, compared with 2015.

There are 3,071 maternal and child health centers, 809 hospitals for gynecology and obstetrics, and 228 children's hospitals across China, she said.
