Chinese mainland reports 14 new COVID-19 cases, all imported

BEIJING — The Chinese mainland on May 18 reported 14 new COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on May 19.

Of the cases, nine were reported in Shanghai, two in Shaanxi and one each in Jiangsu, Hubei and Guangdong.

No new suspected cases and no new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported on May 18, the commission said.

A total of 5,890 imported cases had been reported on the mainland by the end of May 18. Among them, 5,629 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 261 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 90,908 by May 18, including 296 patients still receiving treatment, three of whom were in severe condition.

A total of 85,976 patients had been discharged from hospitals following recovery on the mainland, and 4,636 had died as a result of the virus.

There were one suspected COVID-19 case on the mainland on May 18.

A total of 13 asymptomatic cases were newly reported, and 12 of them arrived from outside the mainland. There were a total of 345 asymptomatic cases, of whom 327 were imported, under medical observation by May 18.

By the end of May 18, 11,826 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 210 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 50 cases had been reported in the Macao SAR, and 2,260 cases, including 14 deaths, had been reported in Taiwan.

A total of 11,535 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, while 49 had been discharged in the Macao SAR, and 1,127 had been discharged in Taiwan.
