BEIJING — Chinese government authorities on Sept 10 met with 10 leading internet platforms, urging them to set an example in protecting workers' rights.

The internet platforms deal mainly with delivery services, ride-hailing and e-commerce, and they include Meituan, Ele.me, Didi, Alibaba and Tencent.

The meeting, which was aimed at giving administrative guidance on protecting workers' rights, was sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Transport, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

As new employment forms emerge, there are growing issues on the protection of labor rights and interests, and the leading internet platforms should be exemplary in complying with the rules in this aspect, the meeting said.

In various kinds of new forms of employment, labor contracts or written agreements should be signed to safeguard the legitimate rights of workers, it said.
