State councilor meets Saudi Arabia’s deputy crown prince on ties

State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Aug 30 met with Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is visiting China to attend the first meeting of a high-level steering committee for coordinating bilateral cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia.

After praising the success of the China-Saudi Arabia high-level steering committee, Yang Jiechi said China attaches great importance to Saudi Arabia’s role in regional and international affairs, and sees it as an important partner in promoting the “Belt and Road” initiative. He said that China will continue to promote a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

China values Saudi Arabia’s support within the G20 framework, and hopes the two countries will make joint efforts with other related parties for a successful G20 Leaders Summit, Yang added.

The Saudi prince said Saudi Arabia is willing to make joint efforts with China in promoting mutual trust, expanding cooperation, and strengthening coordination and cooperation in international affairs, based on the platform of a high-level steering committee. He added that Saudi Arabia hopes the upcoming G20 Hangzhou summit will be a success.
