State Council and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe, who is also the head of the State Committee of Border and Coastal Defense, addressed a meeting regarding implementation of a circular pressing for joint efforts to reinforce work in border control and coastal defense.

It was stressed at the meeting that all military and government levels should continue to press for a multifaceted border control mechanism, with the Communist Party of China sitting at the helm, the government in charge of overall coordination, the military force acting as the mainstay, the police responsible for management, and the masses laying a benign groundwork.

A corresponding management and control system should come into play, with the military and civilian forces further coalesced, and the related systems and mechanisms improved, in a bid to usher in a robust modern border control and coastal defense power.

All member units of the State Committee of Border and Coastal Defense attended the meeting, along with all theater commands, ground forces, armed police forces, departments concerned from all border and coastal provinces and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
