Vic-Premier Sun Chunlan addressed a symposium marking the 30th founding anniversary of China Association of Senior Scientists and Technologists on Nov 19.
At the symposium, she urged carrying forward the senior scientists’ tradition of serving the country with science and technologies to build China into an innovation-oriented country.
Senior scientists have made contributions to China’s scientific, economic and social development, Sun said, hoping that they will offer advice and suggestions on high-quality development, people’s livelihoods, and the aging population.
She also hoped that they could promote the cultivation of scientific talent, the construction of disciplines and specialties, and the popularization of science among teenagers.
Also, Sun required related departments to provide a good environment for senior scientists, in which they can live a comfortable life and give play to their advantages in old age.
Wan Gang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of the China Association for Science and Technology attended the symposium; Chen Zhili, president of China Association of Senior Scientists and Technologists, presided over the symposium.
