BEIJING -- The Chinese government honored 100 foreign experts from 25 countries for their contributions to China’s development on Sept 29.

“The Chinese government attaches great importance to the work concerning foreign experts,” said Vice-Premier Ma Kai at the annual “Friendship Award” ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People.

Congratulating all honored experts, Ma said China will adopt more open policies to attract overseas talents and safeguard their lawful rights and interests in China.

Statistics show in 2013 the number of foreign experts coming to work in the Chinese mainland exceeded 610,000.

Ma said foreign experts working in China are an important driving force for the economic and social development of China and serve as important bridges bettering exchange and cooperation between China and the rest of the world.

China has entered a decisive phase for completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. China’s reform has entered the deep water zone with many difficult issues to be tackled and the economy is at a key stage for upgrading to better quality and efficiency, he said.

“We need the engagement, cooperation and support from outstanding talents of the world,” he said.

China will actively study advanced technologies, mature managerial expertise and brilliant cultural achievements from other countries, said Ma.
