Transport during Chunyun — the Spring Festival rush — should be guaranteed to ensure people travel safely and have a happy festival, Vice-Premier Ma Kai said on Feb 9.

Ma made the comment while inspecting transport hubs in Beijing. He stressed that people and their safety should be prioritized and transportation efficiency improved.

The vice-premier visited the Liuliqiao long-distance bus station, Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing Capital International Airport.

Ma said busy road transportation will make it difficult to ensure road safety, particularly if the weather is bad. Inspections and safety education for drivers should be enhanced, related information should be released in a timely manner and illegal acts should be severely punished.

He also demanded that rail transportation for migrant workers and students should be guaranteed.

At the airport Ma said the schedules of airlines should be increased and inconvenience caused by delays should be properly handled.
