Vice-premier meets with British PM in London

On Nov 9, Vice-Premier Ma Kai met with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London, where he was attending the 8th China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue.

Ma sent May regards from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. He said that 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of China-UK diplomatic relations. China is willing to further strengthen political mutual trust, improve practical cooperation, enhance global affairs coordination and promote a deeper development of bilateral all-around strategic partnership with the UK.

Ma said that China hopes UK can be fair and promote the fulfillment of obligations under Article 15 of the Protocol on China’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

May said that she was glad to have met President Xi in Hangzhou in September. UK seeks to further improve the strategic partnership with China after EU exit. She said that economic and financial dialogue is an important part of China-UK relations, and also reflects the “golden age” of bilateral relations. She expressed the hope that more Chinese enterprises can make investments in UK. UK will support and continue to encourage free trade.
