State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for efforts to build a new western sea-land transportation channel amid construction of the Belt and Road, during his inspection of Southwest China’s Chongqing municipality from Aug 16 to 18.
Wang said China’s diplomacy and foreign affairs should serve the comprehensive opening-up in the new era.
The state councilor visited Chongqing’s international logistics hub and a digital economy exhibition center, checking construction of the transportation channel and the digitalization of industries.
The Belt and Road Initiative, he said, has become the most popular public product launched by China and the largest international cooperation platform.
He added that Chongqing must take full advantage of its geographic location and historical resources in foreign affairs to deepen opening-up and the development of western China.
Wang also participated in a research session, delivered a report about international situations, and heard opinions from the local government.
