UNITED NATIONS — State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sept 26 that China hopes to strengthen cooperation with Latin America to achieve win-win results.

Addressing the seventh round of Dialogue of the Foreign Ministers of China and the Quartet of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Wang said China-Latin America cooperation has yielded fruitful results over the past five years since the establishment of the China-CELAC Forum.

China and CELAC countries, as developing nations, have a broad range of shared interests in upholding international fairness and justice, promoting free trade as well as safeguarding multilateralism, he said.

The two sides should strengthen coordination and cooperation, promote dialogue and exchanges, and strive to become a driving force for world peace and development, Wang said.

Wang said China stands ready to work with Latin American and Caribbean states to accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns on the basis of equality and mutual benefits, respect each other's choice of political system and development path, as well as advance the joint building of the Belt and Road and achieve common development under the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.

China-Latin America cooperation is a voluntary choice of both sides, Wang said, adding that China has never had any geopolitical considerations in Latin America.

China is ready to seek tripartite and multi-party cooperation based on respecting the will of the countries in the region, and enlarge the area of interests to achieve win-win results, he noted.

The top Chinese diplomat also proposed four aspects to promote extensive cooperation between China and Latin America.

First, he called on the region to jointly build the Belt and Road in high quality, with the cooperation on the "Online Silk Road" and "Digital Silk Road" as a priority.

Second, the two sides should expand cooperation in such new areas as poverty alleviation and pollution prevention, Wang said.

Thirdly, the two sides should enhance collaboration under multilateral mechanisms, thus safeguarding the common interests and development space of developing countries, he said.

Finally, Wang said the mechanism construction of the forum should be improved, and China stands ready to work with Latin American and Caribbean countries to overcome interruptions and achieve common development.

Hailing the achievement in the collaboration of both sides over the past five years, the participating Latin American diplomats said China is an important strategic partner for the region.

China's presence in the region is positive, they said.

The CELAC representatives said Latin America-China cooperation and in particular, the joint building of the Belt and Road, has been benefiting the development of Latin American countries and the people in the region as well.

The CELAC side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China so as to jointly defend multilateralism and international order and promote CELAC-China cooperation to a higher level.

The two sides also exchanged views on other international and regional issues of common concern.
