CAIRO — China has been and will always be willing to promote peace, stability and development of the Middle East, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Jan 8.
Wang made the remarks at a joint press conference with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, Egypt.
The Middle East has recently been witnessing more hotspot issues and escalated tensions, which were not only caused by the development of the existing regional conflicts, but also by unilateralism, military intervention and the trampling on international justice and fair play, Wang said.
China calls for respecting the principles of the UN Charter and the rights and wrongs of the issues themselves, sticking to political resolution and multilateralism, so as to create a common, comprehensive, cooperation-based and sustainable regional safety framework, the foreign minister said.
Wang said, as a strategic partner of the Middle East countries, China will continue supporting all countries to safeguard sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and to make concerted efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
