State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártóin in Beihai city of South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Aug 24, 2020.
Wang said that Szijjártóin is the first foreign minister of an EU country to visit China after the COVID-19 outbreak in Europe.
He added that China appreciates Hungary’s just position on issues involving China’s core interests and legitimate concerns, and will continue to increase strategic trust and deepen Belt and Road cooperation with Hungary, to bring the China-Hungary comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.
In face of the resurgence of unilateral bullying, Wang said, China and the EU should safeguard multilateralism with more determination. Both sides should make good preparations for high-level exchanges in the second half of this year, work to conclude negotiations of the China-EU investment agreement within the year, and make the China-EU relationship more stable and mature in the post-COVID-19 era.
Szijjártóin said that Hungary highly commends China for bringing the virus under control in a short time. And Hungary opposes interference in China’s internal affairs, fully supports multilateral cooperation and is willing to increase cooperation with China.
