State Councilor Wang Yong stressed further enhancing natural disaster prevention and control during an inspection tour from June 3 to 6 in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Southwest China’s Sichuan province. He mainly inspected disaster prevention and control work, including flood control, drought relief, and forest fire prevention and control.

While visiting Nanning and Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Chengdu in Sichuan province, Wang inspected the local construction and management of water control projects.

In light of this year’s climate situation, Wang said the possibility of heavy rains and floods is higher than previous years, which requires all regions concerned to spend more efforts in disaster prevention and control. The heads of all local governments should be responsible for carrying out such work, including speeding up repairing water control projects damaged by floods, identifying hidden risks, preparing necessary supplies, and taking strict precautions against landslides and debris flow.

Wang also went onsite to see the supervision of forest fire prevention and control in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture in Sichuan province. He urged improving fire emergency plans, sparing no effort in screening for risks, and strengthening the command system and collaboration mechanism.

Wang also stressed the importance to improving staff members’ professionalism in forest fire prevention and control, as well as building a more effective emergency rescue ability.

Wang also inspected the earthquake monitoring center at the Sichuan Earthquake Administration.
