State Councilor Wang Yong took an inspection tour to Central China's Henan and Anhui provinces from July 15 to 17, investigating the work on flood prevention.
The period of late July and early August calls for robust flood prevention work. Wang checked sections of dikes with potential safety hazards and key water control projects along the Yellow River, Huaihe River, and Chaohu Lake.
Wang carefully inspected the dam construction, waterway dredging, and emergency management. He also acquired detailed knowledge about the reservoir operation and urban waterlogging. The Yellow River, Huaihe River, and Chaohu Lake call for robust flood prevention work due to their high disaster risks and defense difficulties, Wang said, hence departments concerned should beef up monitoring and warning for rainfall and flooding, ensure a strict watch system, continue to investigate potential hazards, prepare contingency plans, staff, materials, and utilization of detention basins in advance. He also required organizing timely emergency rescue work, preparing for local heavy rainfall and sudden changes from flood to drought, in order to prevent casualties and reduce losses with utmost efforts.
Targeted flood prevention work and strengthened unified command and scheduling work should be in place in accordance with drainage conditions of the Yellow River, Huaihe River, and Chaohu Lake, Wang added.
