State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe, also a member of the Central Military Commission, joined a delegation on March 6 in a group deliberation on the Government Work Report at the ongoing fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress.
The deputies, from the People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police Force, lauded the report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang, calling on the military forces to accelerate modernization of the national defense and the military as a new starting point.
Affirming China’s remarkable achievements in an extraordinary year, Wei stressed rising up to challenges ahead and taking solid steps to ensure a good start in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
Amid a severe and complex situation for national security, the military should strengthen exercises and increase combat capacity, to provide powerful support for fully building a modern socialist country, Wei said.
