State Councilor Xiao Jie stressed the importance of efforts to solve major problems in national petition work.

Xiao, also secretary-general of the State Council, made the remarks Oct 25 in Beijing to participants of a petition work seminar.

There are still all kinds of problems in a generally stable and improving petition environment, Xiao said, and emphasized the importance of solving problems at the roots and detecting, preventing and dealing with them as soon as possible.

He also said efforts must be taken to promote the reform of the petition mechanism and build a new system for online mass work.

Cadres in charge of petition work must improve their working abilities so as to better protect people’s legal rights and increase their sense of gains, happiness and security, he added.
