State councilor stresses further support for poverty relief

State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie inspected poverty alleviation work in Zhangbei county and Huaian county, North China's Hebei province, from Sept 15 to 16.

He stressed implementation of decisions taken by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council and further support the poverty alleviation work, so as to win the battle against poverty.

Zhangbei county and Huaian county are the appointed poverty alleviation regions of the General Office of the State Council. Xiao checked local planting and breeding bases, photovoltaic operation enterprises, relocated residence for the poor households, and poverty alleviation workshops.

Xiao also visited poor households to know about the implementation of related policies and measures, and acknowledged the outcomes of poverty alleviation in the two counties.

During the inspection, Xiao talked with the people in charge of the local poverty alleviation, officials in the villages, poor households, heads of poverty alleviation enterprises and the poverty alleviation working group of the General Office of the State Council.

He stressed further support to lift the rest out of poverty at this final critical point of the uphill battle amid the impact of COVID-19.

Xiao also called efforts to consolidate the existing poverty alleviation industries, foster and promote emerging industries based on local conditions, facilitate employment for poverty-stricken groups, enhance monitoring and prevention of return to poverty, and ensure a full success of poverty alleviation.

He also stressed policy guidance, better selection of staff workers for poverty relief work, personnel training, and the connection of poverty alleviation with rural revitalization.
