Notice on aluminum-containing food additives use adjustment by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and four other departments

Updated: Jun 25,2014 11:24 AM     nhfpc.gov.cn

According to the Food Safety Law and New Food Additive Management, we reevaluated aluminum-containing food additives in the Food Additive Use Standards (GB2760-2011), and decided to rule out acid sodium aluminum phosphate, sodium silicoaluminate and starch aluminum octenyl succinate. Puffed food can no longer use aluminum-containing food additives, and aluminum potassium sulfate and aluminum ammonium sulfate application ranges have also been adjusted. The details are as follows:

1. Since July 1, 2014, acid sodium aluminum phosphate, sodium silico aluminate and starch aluminum octenyl succinate are forbidden to be used in food additive production, management and use. Puffed food production can’t use aluminum-containing additives, and wheat flour and related products (except fried flour products, paste including those for fish and poultry, coating and frying powder) shall not use aluminum potassium sulfate and ammonium aluminum sulfate. Food produced before July 1, 2014, can continue to be sold until the expiration date.

2. Food safety supervision departments at all levels should strengthen food safety supervision and inspection, and investigate and punish illegal food production and operations in accordance with the law. The food industry departments should strengthen industrial management and guide food and food additive production and business operations.
