Traffic mileage of China’s high speed railways surpassed 22,000 kilometers by the end of 2016, with a total railway mileage of 124,000 kilometers, according to China Railway Corporation.

There were 3,281 kilometers of new railways constructed last year, with a total investment of 801.5 billion yuan ($115.2 billion). Passengers made 2.77 billion trips, rising 11.2 percent compared to a year before.

Railway freight has bottomed out with a total delivery volume of 2.65 billion tons.

In 2017, 2,100 kilometers of new railways will be constructed. In addition, capitalization of railway assets will be promoted through the reform of the financing mechanism, securitization, mixed-ownership, and debt-to-equity swaps in China Railway Corporation.
