China's Shanxi sees soaring foreign trade in Jan-Feb

TAIYUAN — China's Shanxi province saw robust growth in its foreign trade in the first two months of 2021, according to local customs.

The total import and export value reached 32.85 billion yuan (about $5.05 billion) in the January-February period, up 109.1 percent year-on-year, data by Taiyuan Customs showed.

Exports soared to 19.85 billion yuan, registering a 120.1 percent increase over the same period last year, while imports totaled 13 billion yuan, a rise of 94.2 percent.

Mobile phones made up nearly 70 percent of the exports during the period while imports were mainly high-tech products as well as mechanical and electrical goods, according to customs.

The inland province's trade volume with countries that have joined the Belt and Road Initiative reached 8.46 billion yuan in the first two months of 2021, up 136.2 percent year-on-year.
